The realization of queerness, for Zoey Marciniak, created a tension between theirself, and their mother, Cindy Lou. Although loving and proud, their relationship is strained by a maternal wish for a daughter to be a ‘daughter’.

By means of self portraiture, documentary photography, and appropriated imagery, Zoey Marciniak’s, I’m So Sorry, Cindy Lou!, serves as a formal apology from child to mother for what is, and what they both wish could have been.
